FleetSmart Members: Opportunity to Try Newly Developed SmartDriver for Highway Trucking Online Training Course Feel like going for a “test drive”? Natural Resources Canada’s, FleetSmart Initiative, has recently redeveloped its popular SmartDriver for Highway Trucking (SDHT) fuel efficiency training curriculum. This e-learning course offers lessons and best practices to improve fuel efficiency, including, Idling Management, Shifting and Clutching, Optimal Engine Performance, Vehicle Speed and Brake Use. FleetSmart is now looking for commercial truck drivers across Canada to test this online (eLearning) version of the new SDHT course. Developed in consultation with Canada’s trucking industry, the new SDHT learning suite presents fuel-efficient driving strategies for today’s drivers of tractor-trailers operating in an environment of rising fuel prices and growing demands for environmental responsibility. Skills applied from the training can help individual drivers improve their fuel efficiency by up to 35%. In addition to protecting income and profits, SDHT benefits include reduced greenhouse gas emissions, less vehicle wear and tear, and increased safety. Successful completion of the SDHT training will earn drivers a Certificate of Achievement – confirmation for employers and fellow drivers that the certificate holder is a fuel-efficiency champion.
